Need to speed up your UV mapping? UNFOLD3D V10 is out!

And that’s not the only news we have: Rizom-Lab is a new company, established by the creator and developer of Unfold3D. From this release and onward, it will officially publish and distribute a new Unfold3D UV mapping suite. In addition to setting up a new company, we’ve been busy improving Unfold3D, removing the dongle, and giving it two flavors in order to better fit in with demanding and current pipeline needs. In addition we now have a webstore, and a website with a much better, and cheaper pricing model.

You may have noticed we said two flavors? Unfold3D comes in a version for Virtual Spaces (VS), which is for UV mapping all things related to “normal” 3D work, like modeling for gaming, VR, VFX, animation, photogrammetry, or stills.
The other, and new flavor, Unfold3D Real Space (RS) contains all the features of Unfold Virtual Spaces, but is aimed at providing i.e CAD users with a UV mapping solution as well. Real World-dimension work like industrial and packaging design, and laser etching or printing work need robust, and fast solutions too, and Unfold3D RS provides all that, complete with all the features present in VS.

Common for both, is that we created an extensive toolkit catering to every need, ranging from Multi-Channel, as well as Group, Material and Smoothing Group management, in addition to configurable UDIM layouts with automatic shell distribution and extensive tiling and export tools.
If you’re not a (CAD) modeler or rigger, but work with i.e photogrammetry, we’ve also got you covered, with dedicated segmenting and seam tools, as well as an easy to use, and solid packing system to tidy and control all those unwieldy tris a photogrammetric scan can generate.
If you’re none of the above, but a pipeline developer working with artists, we provide extensive C++ libraries and support to assist integrating all the features from the standalone versions into your pipeline. Take a look at what we did in Maya or SoftImage for an example.

In addition to all this, Unfold3D can offer anyone who wants speed, beautiful UV maps and ease of use, the following main features:

  • An ever-evolving unfolding algorithm that’s been around since 2005 – it has even given the name and concept Unfold(ing) to some of the other popular (DCC) applications out there.
  • A robust stretch and compression minimizer, able to handle multiple types of hard and soft constrains and symmetry. This reduces distortion to a minimum, which in turn significantly reduces any distortion on your model.
  • An unique and outstanding new packaging algorithm which highly utilizes UV space on a whole new level, at blistering speed, even on models with hundreds of thousands of shells. In addition, you can group the shells any which way you want, and you can lock them, so other shells will work and pack around them. And of course, you can independently define and set more than a dozen properties on them, tailoring it to your exact needs.
  • Three new Auto-Seam algorithms. These will automatically cut and segment different kinds of meshes, with weight map controls to protect and attract seams, making even complex models a snap to map.
  • An easy to use and intuitive UI which contains hundreds of tools designed to tweak your UVs in normal and real time, tooled to make UV mapping fast and easy.
  • Mouse presets for ease of use for Maya/Max/Modo/C4D/ZBrush/Blender/Rhino -users, as well as customization options.
  • LUA scripting enabling you to create bridges to other applications, or to automate your most common actions.
  • Full Multiple UV Channel management.
  • UDim Layout.
  • OBJ and FBX file export with all the features and options, like object / smoothing groups / materials polygon IDs and OBJ group handling.
FULL PRICING AND LICENSING MODEL
  • No more dongle.
  • We have divided users into two categories: INDIEs who earn less than 100 000€/y, and PROs that earn more than 100 000€/y. 
  • Both the INDIE and PRO licenses are nodelocked. You can use them on two computers, to make it easier to swap your work between two machines. Superhandy if you’re a student switching between school and home machines or if you’re a pro, switching between workstation and laptop.

    INDIE VS LICENSE

    INDIE users can get a node-locked license as a rent-to-own at 14.90€ a month, and will obtain a perpetual license after 12 months of continuous subscription. You can also,of course buy a license straight up, for 149.90€, saving you two months off the rent-to-own fee. More information.
